My dog whines too much?

I have a 4 year old chocolate lab who is a great dog except every morning he wake up around 5am and whines until we get up.and its not because of hunger or has to go to the bathroom he just wants us up. Even when we put him in the hallway he whines, and so he sleeps in the garage. Do any of you have advice to give so he will stop whining in the morning?? Pllleeease help!!!!
